INAUGURATION OF STATE STEERING COMMITTEE HELD ON 6TH OF APRIL, 2023 AT CONFERENCE HALL STATE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT, YOLA

First Fourteen members were inaugurated as transforming education systems at state level steering committee for better education service delivery for all additional financing. The event which took place at conference hall ministry of education and human capital development state secretariat Jimeta. In her keynote address, Commissioner of Education and human capital development Mrs Wilbina Jackson lauded Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for his free education policy which encourage the World Bank to partner with the state education system. She said as committee members they are to ensure success of the project, saying all hands must be on deck to ensure the project developmental objectives are achieved.

      Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Hajiya Aisha Abubakar Umar, who was represented by the director resources center Mal. Tanko Musa charge the inaugurated members to put extra commitment ahead of the task they are given to. The project coordinator of the transforming education system at state level who is also the secretary of the committee Mr Michael Chinda Medugu said the programme started that the project is a four year project, being implemented in three state of Adamawa, Oyo and Katsina.

      He explained that the project is performance for result (PforR) based. Meaning the Adamawa State Government have to achieve certain educational requirement based on the project objectives in other to harvest reward from the World Bank. The project is designed to create a stronger education system in the state with the objectives of increasing equitable access to out of school children and to strengthen the education sector through the following project objectives.

  • Reduction in number of out of school children (OOSC),
  • Improved literacy rate.
  • Improved accountability for result.

      Mr Michael Chinda announced that they also have area offices in the twenty one local governments and will also trained teachers, SBMC and education stakeholders to impact knowledge for learners to ensure no one is left behind. He further narrated the responsibilities of the steering committees as;

  • Overall coordination, Knowledge sharing and monitoring of project implementation through bi- annual meetings.
  • Review the implementation of the component and forward its analysis and conclusion to the FPCU. This include the review of quarterly reports prepared by the state project coordinating unit (SPCU).
  • Approved annual work plan, budget and procurement plans for the project.
  • Ensured that agreed performance target and timeline for the project are met.
  • Address critical issues that could hinder the implementation of the project.
  • Track performance progressively using approved key performance indicators for each key result areas.
